There are several digital scan 8 mm machines on the market and this was a good price. I have thousands of feet to go through an it has worked fairly well so far. The quality of the digital video has a lot to do with he quality of the old film. There are adjustment for exposure and framing. Some standard 8mm film as you scan, the frame line between each frames gets into the view. You must stop it, go the the menu and change the frame, you can see it as you adjust it. If the exposure looks too dark or light it also can be changed at the menu but the film does not run and it is a trial and error. Once you stop the film and restart it creates a new file on the SD card. I'm using a 16MB SCAN card but it does work with 32MB. For the price I didn't expect more.Ideally it would be nice to run the film at normal speed as a projector but it does not. It scans at 2 frames per second and a 50' reel takes about 30 minutes. To rewind you must reverse the reels but fast forward is kind of slow. Once scanned you can connect it to a monitor or TV and view the MPG file. The unit comes with the appropriate cables.When viewing the old digitalized film from the SD card the speed may seem to be too fast especially 70 year old B&W film. The YouTube video player can adjust the speed at a slower rate. What is really nice that uploading to YouTube from your computer, the whole family can view it and it has given some family members a real sense of the family before some of them was born. I have some cousins that were born after grandpa and grandma died and they seen them for the first time in motion other than a picture. Also they see their great grandparents like they never seen before. It is well worth the effort to convert the old films. This machine will accomplish what you want but not fully professional results but still very good.
