I was trying to digitize my dad's 8mm films the old fashioned way. Set up the projector and screen and use my iPad to capture the video. Then the projector needed a belt which I couldn't find. I decided to spend the money on this machine and am so glad I did. It made the process of digitizing very easy with a couple of caveats. First, make sure you format the SD card using the machine. After I had digitized the first couple of films while using a non-formatted card and transferred to my computer the machine would no longer recognize or format the SD card. I had to buy another SD card and I started off by formatting it in the machine. Worked perfectly throughout then. Second, there were a few times the machine "bound up" while digitizing and you quickly figure out that opening the "gate" and helping the film along takes care of that problem most of the time. The main improvement the manufacturer can make is the rewind speed. It is pretty week and slow, but it does get it done. The end product is as good as the original film. I used some video editing software to try to enhance the video which did help in some cases.
